‘Lives Measured’ Direct Mailer for The War Museum.

In a country far removed from the reality of modern war, teachers find it difficult to quantify for their classes the futile sacrifice that the First World War represented. By creating a tape that measures distance not in centimeters but in lives, we were able to bring home the human cost of the First World War. The War Museum instantly became a more relevant, exciting and engaging environment in which learners could experience military history firsthand.

‘Call-up Papers’ Direct Mailer for The War Museum.

Despite the worldwide reputation of The War Museum, it was struggling to stay relevant to learners today. A realistic and engaging direct mail piece was created that mimicked conscription papers. The mailer gave each student in Johannesburg a taste of what it was like to be conscripted – bringing the subject matter of the Museum to life and inspiring new interest. The piece elicited a profound response in recipients. Shocked, surprised or afraid, each was made instantly aware of the relevance of the museum.

‘Delville Wood Dice’ Direct Mailer for The War Museum.

The brief was to develop a direct mail piece that could be sent to school history departments around Johannesburg to encourage class trips. The solution became an interactive piece that would generate a “Wow, I didn’t know that!” response illustrate the rich and engaging experience offered by the museum. The dice reflected the extreme odds faced by soldiers, encouraging learners to engage and discuss how they would respond in a similar situation.
